Led by scholars of the Victorian Era and artists with contemporary work at Forest Hills

Join scholars and participating artists for tours that explore Victorian architecture and fashion, the nature of neighborhoods and the meaning of memorials, and the way contemporary artists respond to Forest Hills as a magnificent legacy of 19th century Boston. Rain or shine.

Saturday, June 24, 4 pm. Guide: Elise Ciregna

Ms. Ciregna is a historian specializing in the interpretation of material culture. Her interest in the stories objects tell about the people who made and used them has led her to focus on the marble memorials of cemeteries, and to view them in the context of Victorian concepts of home. Artists TBA. Admission: Free

Sunday, June 25, 2 pm. Guide: Al Maze
A general introduction to the history of Forest Hills and some of the notable people buried in the cemetery. Artists TBA. Admission: $8.

Sunday, July 16, 4 pm. Guide: Anthony Sammarco

The author of 50 books about Boston history, Mr. Sammarco has collected hundreds of photographs documenting the Victorian era in the city. This walk will focus on architectural themes. Artists TBA. Admission: $8.

Ms. Morris is a social historian fascinated by the Victorian era. She has led tours at Forest Hills focused on 19th century spiritualism, the social context of memorial sculpture, and the role of pets and working animals in Victorian life. Artists TBA.Exhibition Title: Dwelling: Memory, Architecture & Place. Admission: $8.
