at opening reception for Dwelling
Dwelling:
Memory, Architecture, and Place, the fourth outdoor sculpture exhibition
organized by the Forest Hills Educational Trust at historic Forest
Hills Cemetery, opens on Saturday, June 24 from 3 to 6 p.m. with
a festive public reception. The celebration features three short
performances from The Water Project, a powerful blend of ritual,
myth, visual art, and dance created by Michael Dowling (artist and
director of Medicine Wheel) and Christine Bennett (artistic director
of Christine Bennett Dance Co.).
For
Dowling and Bennett, water shares resonant symbolic meanings with
the cemeterys themes of rebirth, passage, and transformation.
The Opening Reception will also feature a walking tour of the exhibition
at 4 pm with participating artists and Elise Ciregna, a historian
who specializes in Victorian culture. Victorian scholarat 4 pm.
