The Contemporary Sculpture Path More than 35 diverse works of sculpture by local and national artists form a route through the oldest part of the Cemetery grounds, around Lake Hibiscus, and into the newest sections. More information about The Sculpture Path and a List of Participating Artists are included in this site under Exhibitions and Sculpture. The Contemporary Sculpture Path is supported by contributions from individuals and grants from foundations, the Massachusetts Cultural Council, and the Boston Cultural Council, a municipal agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.

POETRY Sunday, January 27 at 2pm $5	Carpenter Poets of Jamaica Plain Nearly ten years ago, a group of carpenters started meeting at a local pub after work to share their poetry with each other. The Carpenter Poets were born. They see a connection between carpentry and writing and seek to explore life through the tools they use to build the world around them. Come here their wonderful and varied work. They have found an ideal venue in Forsyth Chapel, as a place that embodies the poetry of carpentry is perfectly suited for the poetry of carpenters.
POETRY Sunday, February 24 at 2pm $5	Jamaica Pond Poets Jamaica Pond Poets is a collaborative poetry workshop that meets every Saturday morning in Jamaica Plain, to creatively comment on each other's work. Members of Jamaica Pond Poets have all been published in literary magazines, and several have won awards for their work. The group has been running constantly for 17 years, and its members include Dorothy Derifield, Carolyn Gregory, Holly Guran, Audrey Henderson, Susanna Kittredge, Alice Kociemba, Dorian Kotsiopoulos, Jim LaFond-Lewis, Jennifer Markell, Sandra Storey, and Gary Whited.
POETRY Sunday, March 24 at 2pm $5	Sam Cornish Boston's Poet Laureate, Sam Cornish, will feature in Forsyth Chapel. Sam Cornish is Boston Poet Laureate and teaches poetry workshops at the Boston Public Library. He is the author of seven books of poetry, the most recent of which is Dead Beats (Ibbotson Street Press, 2011). A theater production of his previous book of poems, An Apron Full of Beans (CavanKerry Press, 2008), was premiered last year at various locations. He is the author of a memoir, several books for children, and has been the recipient of an NEA Award, ALA Notable Book Award and the St. Botolph Society Foundation Award. WALKING TOUR Sunday, May 26 at 2pm $10	Honored Patriots Two major heroes of the Revolution, General Henry A.S. Dearborn and General Joseph Warren, have their eternal resting places in one of the oldest sections of the cemetery. Sculptor Martin Milmore's Citizen Soldier graces the lot dedicated to Roxbury's Civil War soldiers. This Memorial Day weekendstroll with cultural historian Dee Morris pays homage to some of the American patriots buried in this sacred landscape.
WALKING TOUR Sunday, June 9 at 2pm $10	Unconventional Women Some Forest Hills women from prominent families used their resources to impact the larger community. One such 'lady of society' was Amelia Peabody, a gifted sculptor, who funded a clinic for veterinary medicine; another was the imfamous Lucy Stone, trail-blazer extraordinaire: she was the first woman from Massachussetts to earn a college degree and the first recorded American woman to retain her last name after marrying, after which women who did the same were referred to as Lucy Stoners. Join cultural historian Dee Morris as she explores their journeys from personal comfort zones to solid achievements.
WALKING TOUR Sunday, June 23 at 2pm $10	E.E. Cummings & Anne Sexton Walking Tour Join us for a pilgrimage to the gravesites of two of the most famous American poets of the 20th century – Anne Sexton and E.E. Cummings. Along the way, we will read their poetry and see contemporary art inspired by their work, and hear the stories of some of the other notables buried at Forest Hills during a walk led by the Trust’s Program Director Jonathan Clark.
WALKING TOUR Sunday, July 7 at 2pm $10	Spirited Abolitionists They lived in Boston, united in their passionate opposition to slavery.  Each brought controversial opinions to the movement. Lysander Spooner, a fiery lawyer, sparred with William Lloyd Garrison, editor of The Liberator. Garrison's African-American colleague, William C. Nell, was an out-spoken champion of integration. This early summer walk celebrates these ardent reformers.
FESTIVAL Thursday, July 18, 6 to 9pm Free	15TH ANNUAL LANTERN FESTIVAL The Forest Hills Educational Trust is pleased to announce that the 15th annual Lantern Festival will be held on Thursday, July 18th (raindate: July 25). A much-loved community event for Jamaica Plain, as well as Greater Boston, the Lantern Festival draws its inspiration from the Japanese Bon Festival -- a celebration each year when a door opens to the world of their ancestors allowing loved ones to send messages to the other side. It is a time when neighbors come together to share stories, celebrate, and honor the memories of loved ones. Enjoy multicultural performances and the warmth of the greater Boston community at this special annual event! Soke Grand Master Tsuji XI and Samurai Taiko Drummers Soke Grand Master Tsuji XI is a founder, artistic director of Samurai Taiko Drummers as well as Samurai Academy of Kobudo. He is an internationally renown musician and martial arts expert appearing numerous prestigious events, concerts, seminars around the world.
