Artist's Statement
Through my interest in mythology, I have come to understand how similar the essence of eastern and Occidental cultures are. This essence may be called universal image and idea in my sculpture. This is what I seek to express in my work.
The idea behind the title, the Big Bang, is the beginning of the earth and civilization. The form of the piece has a lot to do with the light and shadow of the sun. The orientation of the piece in regards to the rising and setting sun is paramount. The sculpture is shaped like a disc, representing a meteor. The phrase "big bang" also refers to a meteor hitting the earth. The carved surfaces of the piece further symbolize the landscape of the earth and the cycles of human civilization.
