Artist's Statement
I have been addressing the sculptural aspect of furniture for some time. In creating this piece, I chose to echo forms of family plots found in the older section of the cemetery, where the family headstone predominates, augmented by the smaller stones that represent individuals of that family.

When creating an object, it is important to me to anticipate how it speaks to the viewer and of the maker. To this end I have carved intuitive images (my own signature hieroglyphs)and Morse code into the mahogany to pay homage to the eternal Statements presented by memorials in all cultures.
With this piece, my intention is to create a place where people can relax physically and reflect on their experience in the moment.
